Drug Disposal Program

Drug Dropoff BoxThe Avon Police Department offers a completely free and anonymous opportunity to dispose of unwanted or expired medications. Our agency has an agreement with local industries that help to properly destroy these materials in a safe and environment friendly way.

If you have narcotics that you want to dispose of responsibly, please bring them to the Avon Police Department. A secured receptacle is maintained in our lobby that is emptied on a regular basis by our staff. Simply walk into our lobby and drop the medications into the bin. You are not required to provide identification nor provide any additional information. This is truly a "No Questions Asked" program.

While we are able to dispose of narcotics, we are unable to accept sharps with this program, however we do facilitate a sharps disposal container in our lobby. Our agency is not able to accept any items containing mercury.

Second Drop Box

In 2016, our agency expanded upon our existing drug disposal program by establishing a second drug disposal bin at IU West Hospital in Avon. The bin at IU West Hospital is located just inside the entrance of the Emergency Room entrance/exit of the hospital. Our program disposes approximately 1,500 pounds of unwanted or expired medications each and every year!
